optical illusions

I have recently been investigating in how the mind sees, that is: perception. I am interested in knowing what are the little tricks that the brain uses to interpret the signals that the eyes give.
There are many places I could have started  from, but optical illusions seem to be the key, so I started by investigating a bit in wikipedia.

Optical illusions can be divided into:

literal optical illusions 
cognitive illusions, and
physiological illusions

These last illusions are the ones I feel more interested in, since they depend directly on anatomy (thus it can be subject to scientific study).
